Description

M 27 - Dumbbell Nebula. Captured over 4 nights in mid-September from Brisbane, Australia. Total imaging time of 12.0 hours

Scope - Bintel BT200 f/4
Camera - ZWO ASI1600MM-Pro
Mount - Saxon HEQ5 Pro
Filters - ZWO 7nm RGB and LUM.

M 27 is a planetary nebula 1360 lightyears from Earth. It has the distinction of being the first such nebula to be discovered by Charles Messier in 1764. What we can see is a glowing shell of ionised gas that was ejected from a red giant star late in its life, leaving a white dwarf star at the centre of the nebula
